There are many upscale residential and commercial establishments along Santana Row, also known as The Row in West San Jose. It is near the Winchester Mystery House and Westfield Valley Fair, both local landmarks. Santana Row intersects Stevens Creek Boulevard, a major thoroughfare.

History

A San Jose planning commission member in the 1950s, Frank M. Santana is also the name of the San Jose park in Santana Row. Town and Country Village was previously located on the site.

As a construction project was underway, the largest building at Santana Row (Building 7, Santana Heights) caught fire on August 19, 2002[1][2]. The embers caused at least 15 small fires nearby, and 132 people lost their homes in a nearby apartment complex. There was a $129 million damage estimate for this fire, the largest in San Jose's history[4].

Developed between 2001-2002, the 42-acre village was the most ambitious development of this type in the United States and cost $450 million. Despite being a mixed-use development, it is arguably successful[6].

There was further expansion at Santana Row in 2016.[7] Near Santana Row, there are 24196 people living. [8]

Shopping

In addition to brand name shops, Santana Row offers an assortment of local boutiques, restaurants, 36 food outlets, spas, a theater in San Jose, and a hotel.

There are several large-scale anchor retailers on Stevens Creek Boulevard, including Crate & Barrel, The Container Store, and Best Buy. Within the center are H&M, Tesla, Nike, Lululemon, and Madewell.

In 2004, Santana Row received the CELSOC Engineering Excellence Award, while in 2003, Builder Magazine named it a Project of the Year.
